I have never had counselling before. What's the first step?
Make a no-obligation appointment via telephone, face-time or Skype for 15 minutes. At this appointment, you get an understanding of how I work, you are welcome to take your time to consider if you wish to proceed and if you have any additional questions contact me again and I will be pleased to answer them or if you feel that we can work together make an appointment.
What if I have to cancel the session?
As with most appointments, you will need to give 24 hours' notice to cancel a session - otherwise, you will be charged in full for the session. However, at my discretion, should there be a valid reason why that was not possible I would waiver the charge.
I feel that 1 or 2 sessions would be enough. Is that okay?
Some people only need one or few sessions, and that is totally fine. In that situation, I use a brief solution-focused therapy approach using goal-setting and planning. This is good, for example, for preparing for an event or work-related situation.
I am scared of acupuncture because of the needles
The needles are not like syringe needles. Acupuncture needles are fine - almost like your hair - hence it's not what you imagine. You may feel nothing or a minor sensation that will immediately end, leaving you with a feeling of calm and relaxation. You might even fall asleep.
I want to have counselling, but would prefer telephone or Skype
No problem. I've had a few clients who, for various reasons, cannot meet with me. In those cases, I've done mainly telephone counselling or FaceTime, always according to their choices.
